Digital Identity Wallet

The EU Business Wallet brings organisational credentials into a standardised, interoperable format.

Semansys integrates with it as a relying party, enabling your platform to consume wallet-based credentials without building the protocol layer yourself.

What the EU Business Wallet is

The EU Business Wallet (EBW) is the legal-person track of the European Digital Identity framework, defined under the revised eIDAS Regulation. Where the natural-person EUDI Wallet holds credentials about individuals, the EBW holds credentials about organisations: legal entity identifiers, company registration data, mandates, sector licences, and electronic attestations of attributes issued by authorised trust service providers and public authorities.

The EBW is not a single product from a single vendor. It is an interoperability framework. Any conformant wallet solution, operated by a member state, a regulated trust service provider, or a compliant private participant, must implement the Architecture and Reference Framework (ARF) defined by the European Commission. That shared baseline is what makes a credential issued in one EBW readable by a relying party operating with a different wallet solution in a different jurisdiction.

Semansys does not operate an EBW or issue EBW credentials. Our role is on the relying-party side: we connect your platform to the EBW ecosystem so you can request and receive credential presentations from counterparties whose credentials were issued by authorised issuers elsewhere in the framework.

How Semansys integrates with the EBW

As a relying party integration layer, Semansys:

Sends presentation requests in the standardised format that any conformant EBW implementation can respond to

Verifies the cryptographic integrity of the presented credential against the issuer’s public key material, resolvable from publicly available EU Trusted Lists

Enforces selective disclosure at the request level, so your platform receives only the attributes it asked for

Returns verified attributes via API in a structured, audit-ready format

What you can verify

The types of credentials counterparties may present via an EBW-conformant wallet include:

Legal entity registration data (EUID, BRIS-compatible identifiers)
VAT registration status
Mandate credentials (authorisation to act on behalf of the organisation)
Sector licences and professional body attestations
Organisational identity attestations issued by public authorities

What Semansys verifies is the cryptographic validity of the presentation and the well-formedness of the credential structure. The substantive accuracy of the credential content is the responsibility of the issuing authority. Semansys surfaces issuer identity as part of the verification result so your platform can apply any additional trust policies you require.

Why it matters for compliance workflows

Many compliance obligations in invoicing, procurement, and reporting already require identity verification steps performed manually today: checking a supplier’s registration, confirming a signatory’s authority, validating a licence. The EBW turns these into machine-readable, cryptographically verifiable steps that can run at transaction speed and scale.

For Peppol-connected organisations, EBW integration adds an identity assurance layer that the four-corner delivery model alone does not provide. A Peppol Access Point tells you about routing and delivery. A verified EBW credential presentation tells you something about the counterparty itself.
